Fits: 2008-2017 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan and Sportback, and 2008-2015 Lancer Evolution X (EVO X).
Required Tools
- 10mm socket
- Ratchet and extension
- Trim tool or flathead screwdriver
- Zip ties, and cutters to trim them
Step 1: Remove the Top Fasteners
Open the hood and remove the plastic clips securing the top cover. Then remove the 10mm bolts on top of the grille and below the air intake.
Step 2: Remove the Bottom and Side Fasteners
Remove all the 10mm bolts and clips from the bottom of the bumper, and the clips securing the bumper edges inside each wheel well.
Step 3: Remove the Front Bumper
Pull the bumper outward at the edges to unclip it, then carefully remove it, disconnecting the fog lights if equipped.
Step 4: Remove the Factory Headlight
Remove the four 10mm bolts securing the headlight, unplug the harness and remove the factory headlight.
Step 5: Connect the DRL Harness (ACC)
The DRL needs its own ignition-switched power feed. Take the included ACC harness, open the fuse box and find an ignition-switched fuse (usually a 15A blue fuse). Remove the original fuse, insert the harness tap, and route the wires to the ACC plug on both headlights.
Step 6: Install and Test
Connect all plugs, both the main connector and the ACC plug. Temporarily secure the headlights and test the DRL, turn signals, low beam and high beam on both sides. Once everything works, tidy the wiring with zip ties and reinstall the bumper.
The standard version is now fully installed. The next section applies only to RGB models.
RGB Models: Happy Lighting App Setup
- The Happy Lighting app controls the colors and animation modes of the DRL. The startup animation is preset and cannot be changed.
- Download: search for "Happy Lighting" in the App Store or Google Play, or scan the QR code on the controller box.
- Pairing: turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Open the app, tap the menu icon (arrow 1), and select your device from the list (arrow 2).
- Color: tap the Adjust tab (arrow 3) and use the color wheel (arrows 4 and 5) to choose a solid color.
- Dynamic modes: tap the Music or Mode tab (arrow 6) to choose an animation. Use slider 8 to adjust speed and slider 9 to adjust brightness.
Common Issues and Solutions
Headlight does not turn on after installation. Check that the harness connectors are fully seated. Inspect the pins inside each connector; if any are bent, carefully straighten them with a small precision tool and reconnect securely.
DRL does not work. Recheck the fuse tap and the ACC plug on both headlights.
Swap test. If a headlight still does not work, swap the left and right units to find out whether the issue is the light itself or the vehicle wiring.
Condensation inside the headlight. Temperature differences can cause light condensation, which is normal. Once the light has been on for a while and the internal temperature stabilizes, the moisture clears on its own. It does not affect brightness, performance, or lifespan.
