2018-2024 Toyota Camry LED Projector Headlights Installation Guide

2018-2024 Toyota Camry LED Projector Headlights Installation Guide

Fits: 2018-2024 Toyota Camry (XV70).

These steps cover every build. Two DRL signatures are offered — the stepped Shark-Tooth and the continuous Sword blade with a squared amber side marker — and within them Clear White, app-controlled RGB, and amber side marker versions. They share the same housing and install identically. Only the Shark-Tooth RGB build has an app section, at the end.

The bumper cover has to come off to reach the headlights on this car. Work one fastener line at a time, keep the driver and passenger hardware separated, and tape the paint edges before you flex anything.

Required Tools

  • 1/4" ratchet and extension
  • 10mm and 8mm sockets
  • Trim removal tool or panel popper
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Gloves and masking tape

Before you start: disconnect the negative battery terminal. You will reconnect it in Step 9 to test.

Tools needed to install LED projector headlights on a Toyota Camry

Part 1: Remove the Bumper Cover

Step 1: Remove the Upper Cover

Pop the plastic clips on the upper cover with a trim tool, then lift the cover off to expose the top bumper and headlight fasteners.

Step 1: remove the clips and lift off the upper cover

Step 2: Loosen the Fender Liner

Turn the wheel outward for access, then remove the clips and screws holding the fender liner near the bumper corner.

Step 2: loosen the fender liner at the bumper corner

Step 3: Remove the Lower Fasteners

Take out the bolts and clips along the bottom edge of the bumper, including the splash shield or undertray if they are in the way.

Step 3: remove the lower bumper bolts and clips

Step 4: Release the Bumper Cover

Release the corner clips where the bumper meets the fender, then draw the cover forward. Unplug the fog light and parking sensor connectors if your car has them.

Step 4: release the bumper corner clips and pull the cover forward

Part 2: Replace the Headlights

Step 5: Remove the Headlight Bolts

Remove the headlight bolts at the top and the side, 10mm in most cases. Keep the hardware sorted by side.

Step 5: remove the headlight mounting bolts

Step 6: Unplug the Factory Connectors

Draw the headlight slightly forward and unplug the main connectors. Press the tab and pull on the connector body, never on the wires.

Step 6: press the tab and unplug the factory connector

Step 7: Transfer Any Reused Parts

If your new headlight reuses an OEM bulb, module or bracket, move it across now and make sure it is properly secured before the lamp goes in.

Step 7: transfer any reused OEM parts to the new headlight

Step 8: Fit the New Headlight and Connect

Connect the new harnesses until each one clicks, then seat the headlight and check that every tab lines up before you bolt it down.

Step 8: connect the new headlight harnessStep 8: seat the headlight and align the tabs

Part 3: Test and Reassemble

Step 9: Function Test

Reconnect the battery and test low beam, high beam, DRL and parking light, the amber side marker, and the turn signals on both sides. Sort out any loose connector now, while everything is still open.

Step 9: test all headlight functions before reassembly

Step 10: Reinstall the Bumper and Liners

Reconnect the bumper wiring and refit the cover, engaging the corner clips first. Then put back the bottom fasteners, the fender liner fasteners and the upper cover.

Step 10: refit the bumper cover and liners

The Clear White and amber side marker builds are now fully installed. The next section applies only to the Shark-Tooth RGB build.

Shark-Tooth RGB Build: Happy Lighting App Setup

  1. The Happy Lighting app controls the colors and animation modes of the DRL. The startup animation is preset and cannot be changed.
  2. Download: search for "Happy Lighting" in the App Store or Google Play, or scan the QR code on the controller box.
  3. Pairing: turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Open the app, tap the menu icon (arrow 1), and select your device from the list (arrow 2).
  4. Color: tap the Adjust tab (arrow 3) and use the color wheel (arrows 4 and 5) to choose a solid color.
  5. Dynamic modes: tap the Music or Mode tab (arrow 6) to choose an animation. Use slider 8 to adjust speed and slider 9 to adjust brightness.

Road use. Color modes are for show and display use where permitted. Confirm that the standard road-light functions work normally before using any color mode.

Common Issues and Solutions

Headlight does not turn on after installation. Check that the harness connectors are fully seated. Inspect the pins inside each connector; if any are bent, carefully straighten them with a small precision tool and reconnect securely.

Swap test. If a headlight still does not work, swap the left and right units to find out whether the issue is the light itself or the vehicle wiring.

App cannot connect. Only the Shark-Tooth RGB build has an app function. If that is what you have, turn on Bluetooth and Location Services on your phone (Android needs Location for Bluetooth scanning), and keep other strong signal sources away from the vehicle.

Condensation inside the headlight. Temperature differences can cause light condensation, which is normal. Once the light has been on for a while and the internal temperature stabilizes, the moisture clears on its own. It does not affect brightness, performance, or lifespan.
