2020-2025 Nissan Sentra LED Projector Headlights Installation Guide

Fits: 2020-2025 Nissan Sentra, 8th generation (B18).

Check your factory headlight type before you start. This is the one thing that decides whether the job takes an afternoon or stalls completely:

SR and SV trims with factory LED headlights plug straight into the factory LED harness. Nothing extra needed.
S trim with factory halogen headlights needs a separate adapter harness. It is sold separately and is not in the box. Without it the headlights will not operate at all — both sides stay dark. Order it before you take the old lamps out.

These steps cover all three builds: Clear, Clear with Rotating Purple Light, and RGB. Removal and fitting are identical; the RGB build has an extra app setup section at the end.

The quad-lens layout uses one bi-function projector carrying both low and high beam, with three further lenses shaping the daytime running light signature.

Before You Start

Confirm halogen or LED first, as above, and have the adapter harness in hand if you are on the S trim.
Switch the car off before unplugging anything, and disconnect the negative battery terminal while handling wiring.
Use masking tape around painted panels, the hood edge and the grille trim.
Release clips with a trim tool rather than a screwdriver so they can be reused. Have replacement clips on hand anyway.
Do not put dielectric or weather-sealing grease on connectors or sockets.
Leave the grille and bumper trim loose until every function has passed testing and the beam aim is set.

Required Tools

Trim removal tool or panel clip tool
Metric socket and ratchet set
Phillips and flat screwdrivers
Masking tape and clean microfiber towels
Replacement plastic clips
Electrical tape and zip ties for the supplied harnesses
A helper for turn signal testing, and a flat wall for beam aiming

Part 1: Remove the Factory Headlights

Step 1: Open the Front End

Open the hood and remove only the grille trim, upper bumper fasteners and access covers you need to reach the headlight fasteners.

Step 2: Expose the Lamp Fasteners

Release the clips with a trim tool, working slowly and confirming each fastener before pulling.

Step 3: Support and Unbolt

Hold the headlight with one hand while removing the remaining bolts or clips.

Step 4: Disconnect

Press each lock tab and pull on the connector body, not on the wires.

Step 5: Draw the Lamp Forward

Release the locating pins by pulling straight forward. Do not pry against a painted panel.

Step 6: One Side at a Time

Finish one side completely before starting the other, so the factory assembly stays available as a reference.

Part 2: Install the New Headlights

Step 7: Compare Before Mounting

Set the old and new assembly side by side. Transfer a bracket, seal or adjuster only where the factory lamp clearly carries a part the new one does not.

Step 8: Connect

Match each supplied connector to the corresponding vehicle connector and confirm the lock tab clicks home. On an S trim halogen car, fit the separately sold adapter harness first — it goes between the car and the new headlight.

Step 9: Route the Controller Wire (RGB Build)

On the RGB build, route the controller wire away from moving parts, hot surfaces and sharp sheet-metal edges, and leave it somewhere you can still reach it — you will need it for pairing.

Step 10: Secure the Wiring

Zip-tie the harness so it cannot rub, pinch, pool water, or touch the hood latch, radiator support or a heat source.

Step 11: Seat and Fasten

Align the locating pins and check the gaps against the hood, fender and grille before tightening. Tighten evenly and do not overtighten plastic mounts.

Step 12: Test Before the Trim Goes Back

Daytime running lights, low beam and high beam on both sides.
Left and right turn signals and hazards — confirm the amber sweeps sequentially on the correct side.
Startup animation, if equipped.
Cycle the ignition twice and confirm no bulb-out warning, hyperflash or flicker.
On the RGB build, confirm controller power, app pairing, normal mode, RGB mode and the brightness controls.

Part 3: Set the Beam Aim

Do not skip this. A projector with a sharp cut-off aimed too high is worse for oncoming traffic than the lamp it replaced. Set the aim before driving at night.

Park square to a flat wall about 25 feet away on level ground, with a normal fuel load and no unusual weight in the trunk.
Mark the height of each beam centre on the wall and compare the two sides.
Use the headlight adjusters to bring the cut-off line level and even across both sides.

Only then refit the grille and bumper trim, confirming no wire is stretched or pinched.

The Clear and Rotating Purple Light builds are now fully installed. The next section applies only to the RGB build.

RGB: Happy Lighting App Setup

The Happy Lighting app controls the colors and animation modes. The startup animation is preset and cannot be changed.
Download: search for "Happy Lighting" in the App Store or Google Play, or scan the QR code on the controller box.
Pairing: turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Open the app, tap the menu icon (arrow 1), and select your device from the list (arrow 2).
Color: tap the Adjust tab (arrow 3) and use the color wheel (arrows 4 and 5) to choose a solid color.
Dynamic modes: tap the Music or Mode tab (arrow 6) to choose an animation. Use slider 8 to adjust speed and slider 9 to adjust brightness.

Road use. Color modes are for show and display use where permitted. Confirm that the standard road-light functions work normally before using any color mode.

Common Issues and Solutions

Neither headlight turns on, and the car is an S trim. The separately sold adapter harness is not fitted. Halogen cars will not operate without it.

One headlight does not turn on. Recheck the main connector on that side and the corresponding fuse. Inspect the pins inside the connector; if any are bent, straighten them carefully and reconnect.

Swap test. If a headlight still does not work, swap the left and right units to find out whether the issue is the light or the car's wiring.

Bulb-out warning, flicker or hyperflash. Confirm any included converter or smart decoder is connected exactly as supplied for your trim.

Trim will not sit flush. Check for a trapped harness, a misaligned clip, or a locating pin that has not seated.

Beam pattern looks uneven. Recheck lamp seating first, then adjust the aim against a flat wall.

App cannot connect. Turn on Bluetooth and Location Services on your phone (Android needs Location for Bluetooth scanning). Confirm the controller has power and is still reachable where you routed it.

Condensation inside the headlight. Temperature differences can cause light condensation, which is normal. Once the light has been on for a while and the internal temperature stabilizes, the moisture clears on its own. It does not affect brightness, performance, or lifespan.
