2011-2013 Toyota Corolla LED Tail Lights Installation Guide

Fits: 2011-2013 Toyota Corolla sedan — L, CE, LE, S and XRS.

Does not fit the Corolla Matrix.

This is a four-piece set: outer left and right in the quarter panels, inner left and right on the trunk lid. Plan for both in one session — the outer lamps alone will not give you a complete tail.

Two supplied harnesses, and they do different jobs:

A jumper lead between the outer and inner lamps
A separate reverse-light harness

Find both in the box and identify which is which before you start. Missing the reverse harness is the single most common way this install ends up with one function dead.

This product has no app control and no colour selection.

Before You Start

Park on level ground, switch off, and disconnect the negative battery terminal while handling wiring.
Use masking tape near painted edges around the trunk opening and quarter panels.
If a lamp or trim panel does not move, stop and look for another fastener or locating pin rather than forcing it.
Do not put dielectric or weather-sealing grease on connectors or sockets.
Leave the trunk trim open until every function has passed testing.

Required Tools

Trim removal tool or panel clip tool
Metric socket and ratchet set
Phillips and flat screwdrivers
Masking tape and clean microfiber towels
Electrical tape and zip ties for the supplied harnesses
A helper for brake light and reverse light testing

Part 1: Remove the Factory Tail Lights

Step 1: Open the Rear Access

Open the trunk and remove the access cover or liner you need to reach the lamp retainers.

Step 2: Support and Unfasten

Hold the lamp while removing its nuts, bolts, screws or clips.

Step 3: Pull the Lamp Out

Release the locating pins by pulling in line with the lamp. Do not lever against a painted panel.

Step 4: Disconnect

Press the lock tab and pull on the connector body, not on the wires.

Step 5: Do the Trunk-Lid Lenses

The inner lenses mount on the trunk lid and have their own fasteners and connectors. Support the trunk lid and work with it fully open.

Step 6: Compare Before Fitting

Set the old and new lamps side by side and check the rear plug, the connector count and the mounting points. Transfer a seal, socket, bracket or module only where your kit and the car's configuration require it.

Part 2: Install the New Tail Lights

Step 7: Connect the Main Harness

Seat the vehicle connector fully into the new lamp's connector and confirm the lock tab clicks home. Do this for both the outer and inner pieces.

Step 8: Connect Both Supplied Harnesses

Run the jumper lead between the outer and inner lamps, and connect the reverse-light harness. Secure both away from hinge travel, latch movement, water paths and sharp edges.

Step 9: Seat and Fasten

Align the locating pins and body gaps before tightening. Do not overtighten plastic mounting points. Check that the outer and inner pieces line up across the body seam — that seam is what the eye notices first.

Step 10: Test Before the Trim Goes Back

Running and parking lights on both sides.
Brake lights, with a helper on the pedal.
Left and right turn signals, hazards, and the sequential sweep.
Reverse lights, with the car safely in reverse and the parking brake on.
Startup animation, once the road-light functions pass.
Check for dashboard warnings, hyperflash or flicker.

Step 11: Reinstall the Trim

Refit the access covers, trunk liners and clips only after confirming no wire is pinched. Close the trunk slowly and check nothing is stretched by the lid.

Common Issues and Solutions

Reverse light does not work. This is the separate reverse-light harness, not a fault in the lamp. Confirm it is connected at both ends and fully seated.

The sequence stops partway across the tail. That is the jumper lead between the outer and inner lamps.

One lamp does not turn on. Recheck the main connector lock, the related fuse and the battery connection.

Warning, flicker or hyperflash. Confirm any included decoder, resistor or relay is connected and secured.

Trim will not sit flush. Check for a trapped harness, a broken or missing clip, or a locating pin that has not seated.

Condensation inside the tail light. Temperature differences can cause light condensation, which is normal. Once the light has been on for a while and the internal temperature stabilizes, the moisture clears on its own. It does not affect brightness, performance, or lifespan.
