2016-2021 Honda Civic 10th Gen LED Projector Headlights Installation Guide

Fits: 2016-2021 Honda Civic, 10th generation. One assembly fits every body style and every factory headlight type, thanks to a universalised electrical design with an integrated harness:

• Sedan (FC1/FC2), Coupe (FC3/FC4), Hatchback (FK7), Type R (FK8)
• All trims — LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, Touring, Si, Type R
• Works with stock halogen projector and factory full-LED wing headlights, Type R included

These steps cover all three builds: Clear Static, Clear with Rotating Purple Light, and RGB. Removal and fitting are identical; the RGB build has an extra app setup section at the end.

The front bumper has to come off. Two things decide how smoothly this goes: keeping the fasteners sorted by position, and remembering to move the plastic mounting base over in Step 8.

Before You Start

• Park on level ground, switch off, and disconnect the negative battery terminal while handling wiring.
• Keep every screw organised by where it came from. Different positions take different hardware on this car, and they are easy to mix up.
• Use masking tape around painted bumper and fender edges.
• Do not put dielectric or weather-sealing grease on connectors or sockets.
• Leave the bumper off until the beam and DRL tests pass.

Required Tools

• Trim removal tool or panel clip tool
• Metric socket and ratchet set
• Phillips and flat screwdrivers
• Masking tape and clean microfiber towels
• Electrical tape and zip ties for the supplied harnesses
• A flat wall for beam aiming, and a helper for the function tests

Part 1: Remove the Front Bumper

Step 1: Remove the Upper Plastic Cover

Open the hood and remove the screws holding the plastic protection cover above the front grille area, then lift the cover off to reach the front-end mounting points.

Step 2: Remove the Fender Liner Screws

Remove the screws on both sides of the front fender area. Keep them separate from the others.

Step 3: Remove the Headlight Upper Trim

Take off the metal decorative trim pieces above both headlights and store them safely — they go back on at the end.

Step 4: Remove the Lower Bumper Screws

Remove the screws and fasteners underneath the front bumper. Make sure every lower mounting point is released before you pull on the cover.

Step 5: Remove the Bumper Cover

Take the whole front bumper cover off, supporting it as it comes away so it does not hang from its wiring or scuff the paint.

Part 2: Remove the Factory Headlights

Step 6: Remove the Five Mounting Screws

Each factory headlight is held by five screws. Keep them organised by their original positions — different positions may take different hardware, so do not mix them.

Step 7: Disconnect and Remove

Disconnect the wiring connector at the back of the assembly — press the lock tab and pull on the connector body, not the wires — then lift the factory headlight out.

Part 3: Install the New Headlights

Step 8: Transfer the Plastic Mounting Base

Take the plastic mounting base off the factory headlight and fit it to the new one. This part does not come in the box — skip it and the new lamp has nothing to locate on.

Step 9: Connect

Connect the factory vehicle connector to the new headlight. Depending on your trim, an adapter harness may be needed — fit it if your car calls for it. Confirm every connector is locked before you go further.

Step 10: Mount, Test, Then Reassemble

Fit the headlights into their original positions and refit the screws. Before you fully tighten, nudge each lamp until its edges line up flush with the hood and fender.

Test everything before the bumper goes back on:

1. Low beam and high beam on both sides.
2. DRL, parking and position lights.
3. Left and right turn signals, hazards, side markers if equipped.
4. Startup animation, if equipped.
5. Cycle the ignition twice and confirm no flicker, warning message, hyperflash or dead side.

Then refit the screws, trims and bumper components in reverse order.

Step 11: Set the Beam Aim

Identify the vertical and horizontal adjusters before the bumper is fully back on. Park square to a flat wall about 25 feet away on level ground, mark the height of each beam centre, and bring the cut-off line level and even across both sides. A projector aimed too high is worse for oncoming traffic than the lamp it replaced.

The Clear Static and Rotating Purple Light builds are now fully installed. The next section applies only to the RGB build.

RGB: Happy Lighting App Setup

1. The Happy Lighting app controls the colors and animation modes. The startup animation is preset and cannot be changed.
2. Download: search for "Happy Lighting" in the App Store or Google Play, or scan the QR code on the controller box.
3. Pairing: turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Open the app, tap the menu icon (arrow 1), and select your device from the list (arrow 2).
4. Color: tap the Adjust tab (arrow 3) and use the color wheel (arrows 4 and 5) to choose a solid color.
5. Dynamic modes: tap the Music or Mode tab (arrow 6) to choose an animation. Use slider 8 to adjust speed and slider 9 to adjust brightness.

Road use. Color modes are for show and display use where permitted. Confirm that the standard road-light functions work normally before using any color mode.

Common Issues and Solutions

One headlight does not turn on. Recheck the main connector, the adapter harness if your trim uses one, and the ground. Inspect the pins inside the connector; if any are bent, straighten them carefully and reconnect.

Swap test. If a headlight still does not work, swap the left and right units to find out whether the issue is the light or the car's wiring.

DRL or turn signal does not work. Confirm the DRL/turn harness matches your trim rather than a different configuration.

Warning, flicker or hyperflash. Recheck the decoder, resistor or trim-specific adapter before adding any universal part.

The lamp will not seat. The plastic mounting base from Step 8 was not transferred.

Beam pattern is too high, low or uneven. Re-seat the lamp and confirm every retainer is tight, then adjust the vertical and horizontal aimers.

App cannot connect. Turn on Bluetooth and Location Services on your phone (Android needs Location for Bluetooth scanning). Confirm the controller has power.

Condensation inside the headlight. Temperature differences can cause light condensation, which is normal. Once the light has been on for a while and the internal temperature stabilizes, the moisture clears on its own. It does not affect brightness, performance, or lifespan.
