2007-2013 Toyota Tundra LED Tail Lights Installation Guide

Fits: 2007-2013 Toyota Tundra.

This is one of the quicker tail light jobs — two screws per side and no trim panels to remove. The only thing worth slowing down for is the removal direction in Step 2.

Before You Start

Park on level ground, switch off, and disconnect the negative battery terminal while handling wiring.
Use masking tape near painted edges around the tailgate and bed side.
Do not put dielectric or weather-sealing grease on connectors or sockets.
If a lamp does not move, stop and look for another fastener rather than forcing it.

Required Tools

Screwdriver or socket for the two mounting screws
Masking tape and clean microfiber towels
A helper for brake light and reverse light testing

Part 1: Remove the Factory Tail Lights

Step 1: Remove the Two Screws

Lower the tailgate to reach the two mounting screws along the inner edge of the factory lamp, and remove both.

Step 2: Pull It Sideways, Not Rearward

Grip the lamp securely and pull it sideways, toward the outside of the truck, to release it from the body.

Do not pull the assembly straight toward the rear. That is the instinctive direction and it is the wrong one here — pulling rearward loads the retaining features the wrong way.

Step 3: Take Out the Bulb Sockets

Rotate each bulb socket to unlock it, then carefully pull the socket and bulb out of the factory housing. These sockets are what carry the vehicle's wiring, so handle them gently — they go into the new lamp.

Part 2: Install the New Tail Lights

Step 4: Connect and Fit

Connect all the electrical connectors to the new lamp, push the assembly back into its original position, then refit and tighten the two mounting screws. Do not overtighten.

Step 5: Test Every Function

Running and parking lights on both sides.
Brake lights, with a helper on the pedal.
Left and right turn signals, hazards, and the sequential sweep.
Reverse lights, with the truck safely in reverse and the parking brake on.
Startup animation, once the road-light functions pass.
Check for dashboard warnings, hyperflash or flicker.

Step 5: testing all rear lighting functions

Common Issues and Solutions

The lamp will not come out. You are probably pulling rearward. Pull sideways, toward the outside of the truck.

One function does not work. Check the bulb sockets from Step 3 — each one has to be rotated fully home in the new lamp, not just pushed in.

One lamp does not turn on. Recheck the main connector lock, the related fuse and the battery connection.

Swap test. If a lamp still does not work, swap the left and right units to find out whether the issue is the light or the truck's wiring.

Warning, flicker or hyperflash. Confirm any included decoder, resistor or relay is connected and secured.

The lamp will not sit flush. Check for a trapped wire behind the housing and confirm the locating features have engaged.

Condensation inside the tail light. Temperature differences can cause light condensation, which is normal. Once the light has been on for a while and the internal temperature stabilizes, the moisture clears on its own. It does not affect brightness, performance, or lifespan.
